Visual identity of the Department of Design, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology
The original name of the design department at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology was Industrial and Commercial Design Department. After more than twenty years of establishment and development, in response to the evolution of contemporary design, the department has expanded beyond its original classifications to encompass various design disciplines, such as sustainable design, service design, green design, speculative design, and more.
To keep up with the trends of the times, the department has been renamed as the Design Department. The new name now embraces all these diverse possibilities. In the new visual identity design, the basic elements of design – point, line, and plane – serve as the starting point, forming a face that transitions from two-dimensional to three-dimensional. This expression represents the fresh and innovative face of the Design Department.
The resulting logo can be interacted with through facial recognition using a mobile phone. As the subject's facial expressions change, the logo transforms into different faces, creating a personalized logo for each member of the Design Department, symbolizing that everyone has their unique identity in the department.
